Distribution of winter kits to the most vulnerable
Handicap International has started distributing winter kits for refugee populations in the North of Pakistan. This follows on from the work carried out last summer following fighting between the Taliban and the Pakistani army which lead to almost 2 million people taking to the roads in flight. Whilst some people were able to return home, the living conditions for the most vulnerable remain precarious, and the onset of winter will only make them worse.
Handicap International has already distributed 400 winter kits to the most vulnerable families. The 1,000 kits currently being distributed include blankets and warm clothes (socks, gloves, hats, scarves, jumpers etc.) for over 5,000 adults and children. The region in which the association is working is at altitude and temperatures below -10°C are common.
