Handicap International regularly calls on interns to support and complement the work of its professional teams in areas such as sales, marketing, events, communication and sometimes on its programmes abroad. Each year, more than 80 interns come to us on work placements lasting 4 months on average.
Each internship is organised to ensure that everyone gains from the experience : the mission entrusted to the intern must form part of a learning experience in relation with his/her studies, whilst also meeting our own current needs.
In order to achieve this dual objective, Handicap International only takes on interns currently enrolled on an educational course, and the internship is based on an agreement with the establishment concerned. The intern works as part of a team and is managed by a training supervisor, whose own work is directly related to the intern's training field and who is responsible for ensuring the internship is a success for both the intern and the association.
Handicap International regularly organises internships to meet specific needs. Spontaneous applications are also examined by the Human Resources department and can result in a mission, if the opportunity presents itself.
At the association's head office, internship allowances are paid according to the length of the internship (over 2 months) and level educational level (+ 4 years higher education).
For our programmes, when the internship is in response to a vacancy advertised by the association, local living costs and any necessary insurance are paid by the association. Depending on the dates and nature of the mission, the intern may be invited to take part in all or part of the pre-departure training organised at the association's head office for expatriate staff leaving on their first mission.
