How can you help a man, woman or child to get back on their feet in a difficult environment,  made even harder by poverty, exodus and famine.  By simply giving them the means to help themselves. Handicap International has been helping the most vulnerable members of society since 1982. We work and campaign so that they can regain their dignity and a place within their communities.

240 programmes in almost 60 countries

In the event of an emergency, natural disaster or conflict, Handicap International gives assistance and aid to vulnerable groups, disabled people, displaced people and refugees. The organisation carries out development work in the areas of health, prevention and social and economic inclusion (access to education, professional training, employment, sport, culture and leisure activities.) Handicap International also supports local disabled peoples ' organisations.

A key player on the international political stage

As a result of Handicap International's work helping vulnerable people, the organisation has acquired extensive know-how and expertise in disability issues. This means that we can campaign for greater inclusion of disabled people in development programmes and policies on both a national and an international level. Our goal is to defend and promote access to basic rights for disabled people.

Handicap International is involved in the fight against antipersonnel mines and cluster bombs. As a co-founder of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997, Handicap International is now widely recognized as a key international lobbyist. In 2003, Handicap International launched a new campaign aiming to ban cluster bombs.
