Thanks to its emergency, development and prevention programmes, Handicap International fits with the everyday life of the people with disabilities and the most vulnerable.

Since Handicap International was founded in France in 1982, seven other associations have been set up in Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Great Britain, Germany, Canada and the USA.

Financial transparency is one of Handicap International’s key management principles, enabling it to account for the use of the funds entrusted to it at all times.

Intervening in emergencies, natural disasters and major conflicts across the world in aid of the most vulnerable sections of society is an integral part of the association’s mandate.

For people who have been mutilated or injured as a result of war or a natural disaster, or affected by disease, orthopaedic-fitting followed by functional rehabilitation are the first steps towards restoring their independence.

The association organises demining and prevention actions and policy campaigns to combat the devastation caused by anti-personnel mines.

Since health is a stepping stone to social inclusion, Handicap International organises prevention actions and supports the most fragile patients.

Enabling people with disabilities to live with their families and communities as full citizens and promoting equal opportunities are two of our key areas of focus.

Receiving care, going to school, working, loving and expressing yourself: to ensure these fundamental rights are shared by everyone, Handicap International is active in over 60 countries.
